Son Rise – 2002
Okanagan Adventist Academy sponsored “Son Rise – 2002” with the objective of reaching out to the Kelowna community with the gospel story at Easter. Approximately 1800 people attended the 4 shows on March 31. Our vision is to make this an annual event each Easter. We hope to double the number of performances next year.
Son Rise (a 90 minute program) began in the gym with a depiction of modern tragedies that can be resolved by Jesus Christ. From there the audience was lead through a leper colony into lifelike market in Jerusalem. While in the street of Jerusalem, Jesus rode through on a donkey accompanied by the disciples while the crowd cheered and waved palm branches. Jesus healed some people, blessed some children and preached to the masses. Then the audience watched the last supper acted out on stage. From there they surrounded the garden of Gethsemane and witnessed the Great Controversy between God and Satan. At Pilate’s judgment the crowd was surrounded by the rabble calling for Christ’s crucifixion. They audience followed the cross around the field and witnessed the crucifixion. They followed while the body was carried back into the gym. The crowd cheered and applauded when the angel defeated Satan and Jesus arose from the dead. The disciples surrounded Jesus and Jesus rose into the air before the eyes of the audience as the curtain closed. Peter gave an appeal to the audience to come into a personal relationship with God.
Son Rise took a cast and crew of about 200 people. In addition, many others helped build props and sew costumes.
